There is a lot going on in West Chatham, both resdential and commercial, especially along Pooler Parkway. From Savannah Quarters to Godley Station the area is transforming daily.

The Godley Station area has single family homes ranging from the high 100s to the the high 300s. Visit the clubhouse for an overview of future expansion plans. Make sure if you have a buyer's agent working with you that you sign in as represented by an agent, or have the agent go with you.

In all these new subdivisions there are usually sales agents there representing the builder. They can be a great source of information, but remember, they ARE representing the builder.

Builders are beginning to learn that home-owners want as much of a natural surrounding as they can have, so trees are being preserved, or planted, and small ponds and lagoons are created. When developers level all the trees and build in what looks like a cow pasture, it is very unappealing.

Many builders are now building with hardi-board siding, which is durable, easy to maintain and has a clean, solid look. Hardi-board is a very good alternative to brick or stucco. The house in this picture has a combination of brick and what appears to be hardi-board. A good combination.

Since lots are not huge with most new construction, in order to get a good-size home on the lot, garages now have a front entrance. Many people don't like the front-entrance garage, but they can be made more attractive with good framing and the right garage doors.

Notice the partial hip roof on the right side. Sometimes small changes can add to the curb appeal.

This home has a side entrance garage which makes the home look larger and more attractive. The windows on the garage, at the right side of the house, conceal the fact it's garage space.

The structure built above the arched entryway and the partial eaves around the cornes at the front and at the garage give this home a distinctive look.

You can still find homes on good size lots. At Savannah Quarters I have found many lots to be sufficiently large enough to not feel cramped. Some people prefer smaller lots, though, because of the maintenance.

After the debacle with synthetic stucco around Savannah, and other humid areas, real hard-coat stucco remains an attractive, durable choice of siding. If you aren't familiar with synthetic stucco, Google it. The short story is that Savannah weather is not suited for synthetic stucco, especially if it is not applied to completely seal all areas where moisture can intrude, but hard-coat stucoo is fine.

The porch columns, the thin, tall arched windows at the entrance and the external chimney give this home an impressive look.

Although brick siding is used less nowadays, it's still attractive and durable, and practically maintenance free.

Landscaping is sometimes overlooked by those who pay more attention to a home's interior, but landscaping can completely transfom the exterior appearance of a home.

All these new homes being built in West Chatham have attracted commercial interests so that residents will soon have the convenience of shopping and services enjoyed by those who live closer to Savannah. Also, most of the new development is built close to interstate highways which make driving into Savannah quick and easy.

The steep pitched hip roof gives this home a French Revival look.

Pooler's growth over the past few years has created a good alternative for buyers. It seems each day more commercial interests are being started providing the area with dining, shopping services and entertainment. And, although these pictures are of newer homes, there are also older sections of Pooler where you can get a good deal on a renovated home in a great central location.

Across Pooler Parkway from Savannah Quarters, Premier Properties, from Indianapolis, Indiana, is planning a huge commercial project which will include retail shops, an upscale grocery store and a sixtenn screen cinema which will have dining and a bar within the theater. This project is called 16West.
