    Savannah tourism is rocking

    http://savannahnow.com/exchange/2011-04-04/2010-bed-taxes-highest-ever-savannah-area

This is an article about bed taxes in Savannah at historic highs. I can believe this -- I'm downtown everyday, and the tourists are everywhere. The walking tours have big crowds, and the restaurants appear to be full on a regular basis. Here's an excerpt from the article:

Bed-tax collections were the highest ever in the Savannah area in 2010 — $14.5 million — slightly edging out the previous record of $14.4 million in 2007.

And the good news keeps on coming.

“We just had the best February ever,” said Joe Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah.

Bed-tax collections in the city of Savannah for February were $911,030, besting the rate of $902,250 in 2008.
