Savannah GA Homes: Real Estate Service

A long time ago I realized I am not in the home sales business, I am in the service business, so I went about learning how to provide excellent service. Actually, I have been in the service business most of my working life in one form or another, but I earnestly sought to learn about service 13 years ago. I found out that I knew a lot less about service than I thought I knew. One book changed my whole philosophy about running a business and that book is The Fifth Discipline, written by Peter Senge.
I have been working in the Savannah GA real estate market now since 1996, helping buyers buy homes and sellers sell homes, and on either side of the representation the most important thing I can do is provide excellent service. Yes, it's important to sell the seller's home and to help a buyer get the right home at the right price, but all along the way, because it's a long process, service must be provided, and how I provide that service will make or break me in the long run, no matter how good I am at delivering practical results.
I want to tell a little story about a coffee shop I visited the other day. I have noticed that almost all the patrons eat their snacks and drink their drinks at these places, then leave the cups and plates for the employees to clean up - but since it's a coffee shop and not a full service restaurant the employees have to come from behind the counter to clean up -- so, I usually carry my stuff back to the counter before I leave. I tried a different coffee shop the other day and when I finished I picked up my plate and cup and brought it to the counter -- the clerk behind the counter looked at me disinterestedly and said, "Please take that down to the end of the counter". Now, this is not a big thing, but I laughed at the arrogance and cluelessness of the clerk. I would have taken the cup and plate and smiled and said thank you -- that's how I have learned and have been trained and was raised. It's the little things that make a business.
Good service is vital to long term success.
