Savannah Ga Homes For Sale: Look Past The Ugly
Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 06:07PM If you can look past the ugly, sometimes you can find a gem. I was out today showing homes to a buyer in the older section of Savannah and many of the homes were just plain dirty. I'm always amazed that sellers put their homes on the market in this condition -- it doesn't make sense. However, if you can look past the dirt and minor defects you might find a good deal. This has been stated before in real estate and you probably have heard it on HGTV, but it's true.
The key, though, is getting in the right mindset, and that's not easy. Even though you are told to look past, there is a gut reaction that's hard to get past. You have to psyche yourself out ahead of time if you know you may be seeing homes like this, and if you are purposefully looking for a deal. If the structure is good and the layout works, then soap, water and paint are all that's needed. I have revovated a lot of ugly homes and it's amazing to see the difference once you've done the work.
In this market dirty homes don't sell, so it's a good time to get a great deal. And if you can't get past the dirt and ugliness maybe you can get a friend to help look and keep reminding you it's going to be different after you clean and paint. But it's a shame to let the little things keep you from getting a good home at a good price. Savannah, Ga real estate is a little slow right now, but it's picking up and the timing appears to be great to get bargains -- especially ugly homes that have been sitting on the market a long time. Buy dirty, think clean -- it's a strategy if you're looking for a good deal.
