Savannah Ga Real Estate Series: The Landings

landings.jpgThe Landings is one of the premier gated communities in Savannah Ga. There are six top-notch golf courses at The Landing, along with tennis courts, workout facilities and right outside the gated entrance is a shopping village which has pretty much everything residents need.

This is a quote from The Landings' blog:

"On March 24th The Landings received national recognition as one of LINKS Magazine's 2007-2008 "America's 100 Premier Properties". The award presentation was made by Jack Purcell, president and publisher of LINKS Magazine, on the 18th green of the Oakridge course. The event was well attended by Club and Company Board members and managers, Company REALTORS Ã’ , as well as Club and Association personnel and the press.

"We are pleased to announce The Landings on Skidaway Island has been named to our Top 100 Premiere Properties ranking," said Jack Purcell. "The Landings has been a partner with LINKS since 1988 and we consider The Landings to be one of the country's prototypical golf course communities and an example of how a successful community has matured over the years."

The Landings is a large community and is one of the most beautiful locations around Savannah. Skidaway Island is a gorgeous island and the waterfront views on the river are unbelieveable. However, there is a price to be paid for such beauty and luxury -- home prices run into the millions and the fees are fairly steep, but you can still find older homes in Phase 1 for around $300-400,000. It's about a 20 minute drive into downtown Savannah made more accessible by the extension of the Truman Parkway.

If you like the exclusive, luxury lifestyle, you'll love the Landings. Prudential is the real estate company connected to the home owner's association although homes are listed by other companies. I advise you have a buyer agent go with you when looking at homes in The Landings, so that you avoid the listing agents competitively marketing their particular listings -- a buyer agent will objectively show you all the options and give you the pros and cons. There are negatives even in a place as beautiful as the Landings, and there are also competitive, less-expensive, less-restrictive options around Savannah for similar island and waterfront living.

I'm not purposefully being negative about the Landings, I just know some people who bought there because of the initial allure only later to find out it wasn't their cup of tea. But this is true of many alluring areas in Savannah -- it pays to explore all the options. Having said that, The Landings is the perfect choice for many people and it has a lot to offer.
