Savannah Ga Real Estate Series -- Tybee Island

100_0180.jpgTybee Island is about a 25 minute drive from downtown Savannah. It used to be called Savannah Beachbut now has come into its own. It's a small, funky beachtown with plenty of character. In recent years more restaurants, bars (make sure you go by Doc's Bar), shops and condos have been built. The pier was rebuilt a while back when Atlanta hosted the Olympics and Tybee Island was the site of the yacht races.

Tybee has a residential section of small bungalows, larger off ground homes and many rental cottages. the prices now range from the 200s for small condos to up in the millions for oceanfront properties.

Butler is the main street that runs along the beach front and it is lined with hotels, condos, restaurants and various shops, including the famous Breakfast Club. The beach has been widened through the years and dotted on the horizon are large cargo ships going toward the Savannah River and port.

You will see large crowds most weekends during the spring and summer with all types of beach activites, from volley ball, to parasailing, kite flying, live music at the pier, etc. -- in the evenings, it's good for a quiet, beautiful walk.

Right before entering Tybee, there is the Crab Shack where "The elite eat with barefeet" that's worth visiting. One of the best retaurants on Tybee is Georges -- very good.

But you'll find a little bit of everything on Tybee Island. The year around native population is rather small, a close knit community who work together to help improve the island. then there are part-timers who come for certain parts of the year, then vacationers coming at all times of the year. Our weather is pleasant about 10 months out of the year, so it's almost always a good time to visit.
