    Savannah Ga Art and Technology

art%20and%20technology.jpgJepson Art center in Savannah Ga is having Arts and Technology week. This is appropo for Savannah. Of course, they are bringing awareness to how art and technology blend in the bright, young minds of the new age artists.

But in a larger sense it represents the blending of contrasts that have come to characterize Savannah: the art scene and hi-tech infrastructure; the historic and the new age; the old southern culture and the metropolitan, salmagundi of incoming cultures; the old ideas and the new.

This isn't always an easy blending process. As a matter of fact, this issue of Connect Savannah had an article written by a progressive young man who had lived in Savannah and was displeased with some of the "hillbilly" culture he felt still lingers. He scooted on back to Austin and was writing his displeasure from a hipper (according to him) environ.

Then there are the periodic squabbles between the historic preservationists and the condo kings and queens, the contrast in commercial interests and the desire to maintain esthetics.

But all in all, the blending is creating an evolving mixture greater than the sum of the parts, and all with no fist-fights.

Art and technology -- co-existence is a beautiful thing.
