    Windsor Forest in Savannah Ga

ranch%20style%202.jpgDuring the 70s and 80s many people in Savannah Ga began moving to the southside where all the new residential and commercial development was taking place. Most of the homes are ranch style homes, which were popular around that time – brick, with low pitched roofs.

One of the largest neighborhoods developed was Windsor Forest, which is still a popular area for those who choose somewhat older homes over the newer developments outside Savannah.

Location is one factor that accounts for the popularity of Windsor Forest. Within minutes you can reach popular southside destinations like the Oglethorpe Mall, Home Depot, Best Buy, all brands of fastfood restaurants, Long Horns, Carrabas, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and hundreds of other businesses and services along the commercial stretch of Abercorn Road.

The houses in Windsor Forest range in price from $150,000 to over $700,000 on the marsh in the backend of the neighborhood.

There is also a 9 hole private golf club, LaVita, and most of the neighborhood is behind Armstrong Atlantic University, which is a very good college and part of the University of Georgia system.

Many of the homes have been renovated through the years and for the most part the neighborhood has been kept up – good sized lots and mature shrubbery and trees. You can definitely get more square footage for your money compared with new construction south of Savannah and in West Chatham.

When I first moved to Savannah years ago, I bought a home in Windsor Forest and lived there for quite a while. I enjoyed the neighborhood feel and the convenient access to all the activity on Abercorn. It is definitely worth considering if you are looking for a home with space, a large lot and easy access to shopping, dining and services.

    Later,

    Mike from Savannah
